All About the New Hatchback of Renault: Pulse

Currently Renault has only two cars in India namely, Fluence and Koleos, both of which are not very popular in India. Both Fluence and Koleos are not the hatch back type car and hence it was imperative for Renault to launch a small hatchback car in India. Honda has launched Brio as its small hatchback and VW would launch its hatchback car UP! in future. Similarly, Renault has launched its small hatch back car Pulse. The hot hatch back car segment of Indian market is luring the car manufacturers.

Variants

Renault is available in two variants – RxL and RxZ. Both RxL and RxZ are also available with option of airbags.

Basic features

Both the variants would have the following essential basic features -

• Air conditioners;

• Power windows ;

• Power steering; and

• Power door locks.

Both the variants are equipped with five manual gears. There is no option of automatic gearing system in any of the variant of Pulse.

Air Bags

Both variants are available with an option for Air Bags.

Engine

Both variants are available only in diesel engine. There is no variant of Renault Pulse in Petrol version.

Anti lock braking system

None of the variant of Renault Pulse has anti lock braking system.

All the variants have the central locking and driver seat belt reminder feature.

Alloy wheels

Alloy wheel is available only in RxZ variant of Pulse.

Safety features

Both the variant of Pulse are available with variety of safety features such as –

• Tubeless Tyres;

• Central Locking;

• Child safety locks;

• Tachometer;

• Steering Adjustment;

• Remote Fuel lid; and

• Rear De fogger.

Additional Features

Following additional features are available in both the variants:

• On board trip computer

• Key less entry

• Key off reminder

• Electrically adjustable ORVM

The top end variant has a push button ignition.

Colours

Pulse is available in black, white, red, grey, silver and gold

Competitors

The main competitors of Renault Pulse are:

1. Honda Brio;

2. Skoda Fabia;

3. Maruti Suzuki Swift; and

4. Nissan Micra.

Pros and Cons

Pros

• Car available in diesel variant;

• Good safety features in the Car;

• Many additional features in the car, such as push ignition button; and

• All essential basic features available in both the variants.

Cons

• Not a good brand name in India;

• Almost similar to Nissan Micra, which is cheaper than Renault Pulse;

• Not available in Petrol variant;

• No Anti lock braking system;

• Option of automatic gearing system not available;

• Highly under rated car;

Will it succeed in the Indian market? ... only time and consumers will decide it!
